Open Enrollment

Richmond Public Schools (RPS) is pleased to provide a new online system, Registration Gateway, to support and improve the open enrollment and specialty school application process for the 2017-2018 school year. Registration Gateway, an award-winning online enrollment platform, will support a more streamlined process for managing applications and provide a more efficient notification system for parents. This platform allows families to access their application and check enrollment status from any computer, tablet, or smartphone with Internet access. Parents interested in submitting an open enrollment and/or specialty school application should note the following:

Open Enrollment: The Open Enrollment window for the 2017-18 school year will begin October 20 and end November 11 at 4:30 p.m. Open Enrollment refers to the process of applying to a school “out-of-zone” (a school zoned for an address other than the physical address in which the student currently resides). The “Sibling Request to Attend” should also be completed during this application window. Failure to submit this information during this window will result in the sibling(s) being unable to attend the out-of-zone school.
IB/Specialty Schools: Students applying to the International Baccalaureate Programmes (IB), Franklin Military Academy, Open High School, Richmond Community High School, or Maggie Walker and Appomattox Governor’s Schools should also apply through the Registration Gateway. While the application process for specialty schools will also begin October 20, the deadline for each program varies. Please refer to the Application Timeline.

Given RPS Specialty Schools (Open, Community, FMA) applications will be 100% online, applicants may also contact the RPS Specialty Schools directly if assistance is needed with completing the online application.

Open Enrollment Applications (Hard Copy): are available for download in English and Español, at all schools and in the Office of Pupil Personnel Services, located at 301 North Ninth Street, 13th Floor. The Office of Pupil Personnel Services must receive all applications, mailed or hand-delivered, by 4:30 p.m. on November 11.

Charter Schools (Hard Copy): Richmond Career Education and Employment Academy (RCEEA) and Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts (PHSSA) will continue to use a paper application for the 2017-18 school year. RCEEA and PHSSA will provide specific information for their respective application processes.

Governor’s Schools (Hard Copy): Maggie Walker Governor’s and Appomattox Governor’s School hard copy applications will be available from zone middle school counselors beginning October 17th.
